Degrafa is a project dedicated to the development of a Declarative Graphics Framework for Flex.

Team

The “team” behind the development of Degrafa includes Jason Hawryluk, Juan Sanchez, Andy McIntosh, Ben Stucki and Pavan Podila. All have a unique set of skills and viewpoints that are beneficial to the project. Working on the framework together has created “real world” designer/developer scenarios that have initiated the integration of new, more robust features. These scenarios have been crucial to progress and are another means of verifying that Degrafa is a viable solution for development.

Jason Hawryluk

Jason created the Flex 2 Primitive Explorer and has worked on a number of projects that have helped him build the experience necessary to approach the development of Degrafa. The outlook on new feature sets and passion for a solid solution help elevate the quality and possibilities of the framework.

If you have any technical questions, or just want to pick Jason’s brain, you can email him at jason[at]degrafa[dot]com.

Juan Sanchez

Juan is an Experience Architect at EffectiveUI, the creator of ScaleNine and the author behind the majority of themes that are available there. He brings a designer perspective and serves up new ways of pushing the framework.

For any design or visually driven questions, or questions about Degrafa’s capabilities, you can contact Juan at juan[at]degrafa[dot]com.

Andy McIntosh

Andy is an Experience Architect at EffectiveUI who brings his experience of dealing with complex UI design and development issues to enhance and strengthen the core features of Degrafa. The range of knowledge Andy adds to the team will be instrumental in pursing his passion, and ours, of bridging the gap between designers and developers in Flex. You can check out Andy’s blog to learn more about what he’s up to.

If you have any design or technical questions for Andy regarding Degrafa, you can email him at andy[at]degrafa[dot]com.

Ben Stucki

Ben is a Flex developer with a passion for custom styling and interaction design. He brings an in-depth knowledge of CSS and the Flex styling framework, along with years of experience using the Flash graphics API. You can check out Ben’s blog to learn more about his latest projects.

If you have any CSS or skinning questions regarding Degrafa, you can contact Ben at ben[at]degrafa[dot]com.

Pavan Podila

Pavan has a strong background in WPF/XAML and has worked on complex UI designs and custom controls. Through Pavan’s blog he discusses custom control development, animations, 3D, architecture, etc. and developed the Illustrator to XAML exporter. Pavan feels Flex is very similar in principle to WPF, so he decided to jump on.

You can contact Pavan at pavan[at]degrafa[dot]com.

Jim Cheng

Jim is a seasoned Flex/AJAX Senior Developer at EffectiveUI with a strong background in data structures and algorithms. He augments the Degrafa team with years of experience in performance optimization and file format parsers. Jim looks forward to improving the core framework as well as contributing new features.

You can contact Jim at jim[at]degrafa[dot]com.

Sean Chatman

Sean is an application developer with no design talent whatsoever, just check out his entry for the Degrafa Derby. He sees Degrafa as a way to bring advanced graphics and styling into production apps. As the super end user, he wants to help spread the framework to the masses. If he can do it, anyone can.

You can contact Sean at sean[at]degrafa[dot]com.

Greg Dove

Greg is a free-lance developer, specialising in Adobe® Flash® website enhancements, and integration of Flash with server side scripting. He has also worked in corporate roles in sales, marketing and business development functions, including 4 years as an eBusiness manager. He thrives on finding new ways to build bridges between information technology and business opportunity. One of his recent projects LineArticulator  naturally led him to become interested in Degrafa, and as a result (very naturally), Flex. Now he’s actively contributing to the Degrafa project, focusing on capabilities to translate source code from other formats as well as general coding support within the framework. He thinks that Degrafa with Flex, for a long-time Flash coder, is much easier than snowboarding for a seasoned skier (and definitely a lot safer).

You can contact Greg at greg[at]degrafa[dot]com.

Tom Gonzalez

Tom is an interactive visual designer and software architect with more than 20 years experience in software development. He currently is the Managing Director at BrightPoint Consulting, Inc a consultancy focused on delivering highly immersive and visually engaging data centric applications. Tom’s background in both visual arts and computer science combined with his expertise in Adobe Flex drew him to Degrafa and he hasn’t looked back since. You can read more about Tom’s continued research in the field of visual design and software development on his blog Form-Function.
